The cutting process of billets with pendulum shears is an extremely critical step in industrial processing, where extreme speeds and temperatures demand the utmost precision. Even slight temperature differences can cause serious problems – billets that are too cold can damage the shears, while overheated billets can deform and compromise product quality. Without precise temperature monitoring, both the equipment and process stability are at risk.

Selmatec addresses this challenge with its PS-Inspector software, supported by a high-performance DIAS thermal imaging camera. Using short-wave infrared imaging, the system continuously measures the temperature of rapidly moving sticks in real time. This allows users to define monitoring zones, track temperature profiles, and receive immediate alerts when thresholds are exceeded. This helps prevent damage and enables timely maintenance decisions.

For reliable performance, proper camera placement and protection are crucial. The cameras are installed behind the scissors to prevent distorted readings and are housed in water-cooled stainless steel enclosures with air knife systems to withstand heat, dust, and turbulence.
